Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Gambling Authority of Botswana is dedicated to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, regardless of ability or technology. We are actively working to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to make this portal as inclusive as possible.

Standards We Follow

This portal aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with sensory, cognitive, and physical challenges. Conforming to these guidelines helps make the web more user-friendly for everyone.

Our system includes the following adjustments to maximize usability across different assistive technologies:

  • Full Keyboard Navigation — Navigate cleanly through all logical pathways, support buttons, self-exclusion services, and form controls using only your keyboard tab functions.
  • Dynamic Font Resizing — Scale site headers and paragraph text cleanly via standard browser adjustments without breaking site margins or component borders.
  • High Contrast and Color Balance — Calculated contrast ratios on critical alert fields (such as our Red Emergency Banner) maintain high visibility over both light and dark display modes.
  • Comprehensive Alt Text & Screen Reader Support — Form entries, buttons, and logo placeholders include descriptive aria labels and image alternatives to guide users utilizing screen-reading software.

Known Limitations

While we strive to adhere to WCAG standards across the entire portal, certain sections may occasionally present issues. These primarily involve older downloadable pamphlets and third-party localized map embeddings. We are currently auditing our legacy documents to bring them up to active standards.
